How To Vape Safely – Tips and Advice

Vaping is a lifestyle many people enjoy and it’s a great (and safer) alternative to smoking. But it seems the media love to run stories on accidents such as e cigarettes exploding. Like all electrical products, e cigarettes can be dangerous if you are negligent to the risks and forget the basic safety precautions.

It is easy to take your e-cigarette for granted when you’re vaping every day, but remember it’s an electronic device and, as with all electronic devices, you must exercise caution when vaping. The same safety concerns should be applied to whatever tank you are using, whatever mods you have and whatever other gadgets you are using to make your e-cigarette experience as enjoyable as it should be. Treat your e-cigarette with respect, care and attention, and you will avoid any unwanted accidents. By sticking to the following vaping safety precautions, you will ensure you can enjoy vaping as safely as possible. This way, you can protect yourself and those around you, and you won’t be fodder for the next media story.

Battery Safety

The most dangerous aspect of vaping is, undoubtedly, the lithium ion batteries that are used to power most mods. While these can be counted on to perform reliably, they can easily become hazardous when mishandled. Knowledge of battery safety is often ignored, leading to serious accidents with could have been avoided.

You should always keep up-to-date with battery safety precautions. For more information, check out my article on the 5 Essential Battery Tips for Your E-Cigarette.

Don’t carry batteries in your pocket

Another battery rule is not carrying batteries in your pocket. It may seem like a good idea to add an extra battery into your pocket before going out, just in case the first battery starts running low. But carrying batteries in your pocket can be quite hazardous under some circumstances. If loose change or a set of keys accidentally completes a circuit between the positive and negative ends you could end up with your pants on fire – literally. Pick up a battery case or be extremely careful not to put anything else in your pocket with a battery.

Beware of Heat

Heat can be a wonderful thing, especially when you are sunning yourself in the Caribbean. But when you are smoking an e-cigarette, heat can cause real damage to you and your mod. When you are using a mod regularly, you will notice if it does anything unusual – like overheating for example. If you notice your e-cigarette beginning to get warmer until it becomes uncomfortably hot to the touch, stop vaping immediately and put it down. Batteries on electronic devices get hot when they are overworked. If you keep vaping, when your e-cigarette is already too hot, there is a chance it could ‘vent’. Venting occurs when the chemicals inside the battery become too hot and begin producing gasses. Ultimately, this could cause your e-cigarette to explode. Stay safe and stop vaping if the heat gets too much.

Stay Hydrated

Whether you vape or not, keeping hydrated is especially important. We are all made predominantly of water, so be sure to keep a water bottle near you as a reminder to stay hydrated. As much as you may enjoy vaping, it can often leave you feeling dehydrated, as it takes away moisture from your body. So, be sure to keep your fluids up – especially important during the summer months. Dehydration is a lot more serious than people think. It can lead to numerous short term and long term health problems, so invest in keeping your body well-hydrated.

Children and Pets

You will be amazed how many people do not keep their e-cigarette equipment out of the way of their children and pets. We need to be aware of and look out for those who may not be able to understand what a bottle of e-liquid might contain. At certain dosage levels, nicotine can be a deadly poison. Therefore, please do everything you can to ensure that all your vaping equipment is kept out of reach of all children and animals.

E-Liquid

E-liquid should be handled with care. If you do not proceed with caution, e-juice has the potential to be just as dangerous as a misused battery. If e-juice isn’t stored properly, or is used irresponsibly, it can be very dangerous. Nicotine is classified as a poison and e-liquid should be treated in the same way as any other dangerous substance, such as bleach. If enough e-juice is ingested or rubbed onto the skin, it is poisonous. So, always take care when handling your e-juice to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

Faulty Mods

Are you worried that your mod is acting strangely? Stop using it. We need to be careful when it comes to faulty products. Be on the lookout for any unusual glitches in your mod. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, take the safe route and stop using your mod immediately to avoid any accidents. Stopping until you can get the problem fixed, or source a replacement, is better than causing injury to yourself or somebody else.
