What Is The Correct Way To Vape?

Vaping is an alternative for those who are thinking about quitting smoking. Knowing how to vape correctly is essential, as a poor inhaling technique could lead to coughing and an unpleasant taste.

There are two main techniques for inhaling a vape, depending on the strength of nicotine you use. At SmokShop, we tell you all you need to know about the components of a vape and the correct way to inhale.

What is vaping?

Vaping is the action of inhaling vapour from a vape or e-cig, simulating the action of smoking. Vapes are small handheld devices used to inhale vapour and are available in various shapes and sizes. Although vapes have different designs, they are often constructed of similar components and operate similarly.

E-liquids contain nicotine and are available in numerous unique and succulent flavours, such as fruit and citrus; however, some e-liquids don’t. Vaping is often used as an alternative to smoking, while some people vape to help them quit smoking.

How does a vape work?

Vapes are constructed with various components requiring them to work together effectively. The key components of a vape are the mouthpiece, vape mod, atomizer and coil.

The vape mod contains a battery that powers the coil and heats up to vaporise the e-liquid. The atomizer is a small chamber where the e-liquid is vaporised and turned into vapour, which the user inhales through the mouthpiece.

If you are new to vaping, it is recommended that you buy vaping kits with compatible components to ensure excellent performance. Disposable vapes have pre-filled cartridges of a particular flavour, while vape mods allow users to fill their tanks with different e-liquid flavours.

Vape mods

The vape mod is the power source for a vape and comes in various shapes and sizes, often using lithium-ion batteries. Vape mods are often named per their design, such as vape pens or box mods. Different power levels depend on the user’s experience with vapes and dictate how easy they are to use.

Low-powered vapes

Vape pens and e-cigarettes often have low power and are recommended for those new to vaping with little experience. Unless you have a disposable vape, vapes with low power are constructed with a small rechargeable battery and usually do not have adjustable power.

E-cigarettes and vape pens are perfect for those wanting a lightweight vape that is easy to carry around without taking up too much space, allowing you to vape at any time during the day.

Medium-powered vapes

Vapes with medium power, such as box mods, require some battery safety knowledge and experience. Box mods could end up being an unpleasant experience for those with little knowledge of vape components.

Due to the extra power compared to vape pens and e-cigarettes, box mods have medium-sized batteries, either built-in or rechargeable. Medium-powered vapes often have adjustable power and are easily transported in your pocket.

High-powered vapes

Mechanical mods are powerful yet simple in design, as pure battery power is transferred to the atomiser. A homemade device, users have to buy their vape components and build their mechanical mod.

Vaping experience and battery safety knowledge are essential if handling a mechanical mod, as they can be highly dangerous with the wrong person. Mechanical mods can be carried around in your pockets; however, they may take up room while feeling heavy and bulky.

How to inhale a vape

Knowing how to inhale a vape is essential when vaping, as inhaling incorrectly could lead to a distasteful rush of nicotine or coughing. Ensuring you inhale your vape correctly will help to enhance your overall experience. Mouth-to-lung and direct-lung are the two main ways to inhale a vape, depending on your device.

Mouth-to-lung

Mouth-to-lung inhaling is very similar to the act of smoking and provides a throat hit that is ideal for smokers who have switched to vaping. High nicotine in smaller devices with high-resistance coils is the best way to draw mouth-to-lung hits.

For a mouth-to-lung hit, draw vapour into your mouth before holding it for a few seconds and breathing it into your lungs. Once the vapour is in your lungs, you should exhale.

Direct-lung

A direct-lung technique is often used with larger vapes with low-resistance coils and low nicotine. The direct-lung technique is very smooth and easy to do, as you inhale low amounts of nicotine. Direct-lung hits are achieved by swiftly drawing vapour into the lungs before exhaling immediately.

If you are struggling to determine which technique is best suited for your vape, the amount of nicotine it has is a good indicator. High nicotine counts, often between 12 mg and 20 mg, are best suited for a mouth-to-lung technique. Low nicotine counts, between 0 and 6 mg, are most suitable for direct-lung hits. A nicotine count of 6 mg is usually the cut-off for direct-lung inhalation; however, nicotine counts between 6 mg and 12 mg are suitable for both inhaling techniques.

How often should you hit a vape?

If you are new to vaping, it is recommended that you keep to a daily limit of 60 to 80 puffs. For experienced vapers, there is no definitive answer to how often you should vape other than stick to your preferences.

Chain vaping is quickly taking one puff after another in quick succession, which is another mistake that beginners tend to make, leading you to burn your coils and harm your device. You should wait at least 15 to 30 seconds before puffs to allow the wick inside your coil to become saturated.

Vaping is a fantastic alternative to smoking; however, knowing how to inhale correctly is essential for the best possible experience. Your experience level determines how powerful your vape should be, while the nicotine strength dictates your inhalation technique.
