If you’re new to vaping you might think an electronic cigarette is an electronic cigarette, right? If you’re not new to vaping then you’ll know how completely wrong that statement is. There are hundreds, if not thousands of different ways you can vape. It’s a bit like saying a car is just a car. A Lamborghini owner would surely beg to differ and say his car is so much more than just any old car. This is why in this blog post I’ve decided to let beginner vapers know what an e cig mod is, and what choices there are available. You could say that a vape mod is the Lamborghini of the e cig world, so you’d better brush up and know the difference if you want to consider yourself a true vaper.
What is a Vape Mod?
Normally when people first start vaping they’ll set off with what we call a vape pen. This is a cylindrical shape, rather like a cigarette. It has a small atomizer or tank for the e liquid, a slim battery, and a button to start vaping. It couldn’t be simpler, and is what most people use when they first start vaping. But after a while, when you’re comfortable with vaping, you might want something a little stronger, or more versatile. This is where an e cig mod comes in. A typical e-cig mod is box shaped and has a wide array of controls. The battery is part of the mod itself and a tank can be screwed into the top. Virtually all new mods have temperature control and variable wattage/voltage to give you complete control over your vaping experience. They have a wide range of wattage with some of the bigger mods going right up to 200 watts of power. There’s no getting away from it a vape mod is the most impressive way to vape, and if you’re looking for great flavour and awesome cloud production then you’re going to have to get yourself an e cig mod.
But, Where Do I Start?
I thought you was going to ask that. There are hundreds of different mods available on the market from a wide range of brands and manufacturers. It’s difficult to cut through the hype and find the absolute best vape mod, if there is such a thing. So I’ve looked through our complete range and plucked out 8 of the very best e cig mods we have to offer. All of these mods offer a fantastic vape and you can’t go wrong with either of them. You still need to get yourself a good tank, and I use the Kanger TopTank Mini, but finding the best tank is another post all together.
So, here we go. Here’s my top 8 e-cig mods for 2016.
Hexohm v3
If you’re looking for high-end quality and sheer awesomeness, then the Hexohm v3 has it in spades.
It has an awesome design and looks amazing. HexOhm have always built great ecig mods and this is the 3.0 version, so it’s brand new and packed full of features. It has its own proprietary circuit-board that’s rated up to 30 amps and kicks out an incredible 180 watts. I’m not sure it’s recommended to vape at such incredible temperatures, but you could say the same about a sports car that travels at 200 mph. The point is it’s there if you want it. The HexOhm 3 also has a low voltage cut off for battery protection and a 10 second cut off timer. This baby isn’t cheap at around £140, but mods of this type of quality don’t come cheap. I’ve vaped this mod and I can vouch that it offers a really impressive vape.
Aspire NX75
The Aspire NX75 looks like something out of Star Trek and it has everything you could possibly ask for in an e cig mod.
Aspire are a great manufacturer in the e cigarette world, and everything they make has a feel of real quality about it. The design of the NX75 speaks for itself with its sleek edges and precision engineering, but it’s not all about looks. It has a full range of features and controls that tell you everything you need to know about your vape mod. It has variable wattage/voltage and runs up to a more than adequate 75 watts. It has temperature control and you can select between wire material with Ti, Ni, SS and TCR settings. It even lets you customize how the button fires and you can set different firing profiles. If you looked at it you’d think it would come in at a price well over £100, but you can pick these up for around £40. So for that alone it’s well worthy of a place on my list of best e cig mods.
Aspire Evo 75
Sticking with Aspire I thought it would be well worth mentioning the Evo 75. This is a slightly older mod than the NX75 but offers a sub-ohm vaping experience that is hard to beat. It fires up to 75 watts, the same as the NX75 and has 0.4 ohm and 0.5 ohm coils. It has temperature control and firing button profiles which allow for the power curve to be fined tuned to perfection. The Evo 75 is usually sold in a kit which includes an Atlantis Evo tank and comes in at around £55.
Wismec RX2/3
The Wismec RX2/3 is a kickass box mod pumping out an incredible 200 watts of power. It’s probably only advanced vapers that have heard of Wismec, but as a range of mods they keep getting better and better.
With the RX2/3 model Wismec have taken all of their previous experience in mods and packed it into one hardcore device. It has an interchangeable back plate which allows you to swap out batteries with ease, and it can even take 3 batteries at a time which gives you that awe inspiring 200w of power. It’s a vape mod that’s not for the faint hearted, but if you want to blow away your vaping buddies then get yourself one of these. You can pick them up for around £80.
Evolv HCigar VT75
Evolv are another brand for the hardcore vape enthusiast and specialises in high-end e cig mods. The HCigar VT75 is an awesome piece of kit and one that’ll get the cloud chasers all in a bother. It fires up to 75w and is packed full of features.
It’s powered by a single battery and can either take an 18650 or 26650 battery. It looks amazing, especially in black and if you’re looking for a mod that’ll make you stand out then this little number by Evolv is sure to do that. It’s not the cheapest mod at almost £90, but in my opinion it’s worth it for the bragging rights alone.
Eleaf iPower
The Eleaf ipower came out in July 2016 and has been one of our bestsellers. It’s a 5000mah capacity mod and contains all the features you’d expect from a high quality mod. It has a robust design and looks sleek.
At £40 it’s at the lower end of the range when it comes to mods, but it’s still a great quality piece of kit. It fires up to 80w so isn’t shabby at all and has 5 separate output modes. If you’re looking to dip your toe into the world of vape mods but don’t want to break the bank, the iPower is a sensible choice.
Joyetech eVic VTwo
It’s very difficult to pick between any of these e cig mods, and as with everything to do with vaping, it’s highly subjective. But I thought I’d finish off with one of my favourites, the Joyetch eVic Two.
The eVic VTwo is a beautiful looking mod and comes in a wide range of colours. It takes a 5000mAh battery and fires up to 80 watts. It’s one of my favourites, not just because it looks great and works great, but also because it has a digital clock built in!
It has all the features you could ask for in a mod and comes in at a price range of less than £55. It’s a tough call but I would have to say the eVic VTwo is my favourite vape mod, but as I say, all things in vaping are subjective.
So there you have it, there’s 8 awesome e cig mods here to choose from. You can go wrong with any of them and they’re all awesome in their own way. I guess from here you’ll go on looks and price because all these mods offer an excellent vape.
Feel free to let me know of any mods I may not have mentioned, and let me know your thoughts on the mods I have mentioned. After all, vaping is a team sport and all of our opinions count.
