United States Push Ahead With Regulations On E Cigs

There has been much hoo haa about electronic cigarettes in the news lately, with the World Health Organization being the latest to speak out about stricter regulations on electronic cigarettes. As ever the United States are leading the way as the Food and Drug Administration in the States announce plans for their new regulations on electronic cigarettes. These have been formally commented on by tens of thousands of people and more than half of the States are looking to find additional marketing standards for what can be done. The FDA may be using a few different changes in the near future to make these regulations work as well as they are supposed to.

Evolution of Smoking

Human beings love to smoke. We have been smoking in one form or another since 5000bc. Cannabis was one of the earliest forms of smoking but we soon went on to tobacco, no doubt because of the lesser side affects. In 1612 John Rolfe starting growing tobacco for cash in America and our obsession for spoke was officially born.

Probably for as long as we have been spoke there have been people saying that it is bad for our health. It is no doubt bad for our health, but then so are many other things we do in our lives, such as drink alcohol. Today, in the 21st century smoking has become somewhat of a pariah with worldwide smoking bans being enforced, and advertising cigarettes being abolished. The ingenius answer to this was the invention of electronic cigarettes. E cigarettes don't emit smoke so could get around all of the smoking bans that have been introduced. But alas it didn't take long for the naysayers to jump on the fact there hasn't been enough significant testing to prove that e cigarettes are safe to smoke in public areas.

Switching to E Cigarettes

So in recent news, and this seems to have been rumbling on for some time now, we're told there are two camps to the argument on whether electronic cigarettes can help you to quit smoking. One camp believes that to quit smoking you shouldn't swap one form of smoking for another. The other camp believes that the level of control you can get from e cigarettes, and the fact that you can effectively turn down the nicotine dosage that you smoke, means that e cigarettes are an excellent device to help you quit smoking all together.

According to the American Heart Association, electronic cigarettes should be the last option for anyone looking for help to stop smoking. Its policy statement, which is the first from the Association, supports this view. The American Cancer Society on the other hand, has no formal policy at all. However, it took a stance similar to the American Heart Association in May.
